The Laudato Si’ Reading Challenge                   to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’:    On Care For Our Common Home

Earth Ministry at St. Mary’s is sharing a reading challenge. It is to read Pope Francis’ encyclical, at your own pace, and take advantage of interpretation from the Laudato Si Movement.  It’s about why we need to care for creation.

It’s a free opportunity for participants to read on their own, and then meet (optional) and share      reflection questions, video and spiritual inspiration.

We have registered with the group to supply us   with motivation, and spiritual guidance.

There will the opportunity to meet & discuss in the parish center below church (or outside) on    Thursday mornings after 8:00 AM Mass,          from 8:30-9:15.

The 6 dates will be Thursdays, June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7, August 21 and Sept. 4  to meet.

There are free options for the reading material and Self-Paid options: Kindle ($5.95), paperback ($16.95).

The challenge of course is with oneself. There’s    not any competition to this. Just an opportunity for consideration, knowledge, hope and action.

The in-person, bi-weekly meetings are optional, but hope to be helpful and enriching. We will then have the opportunity to partake in a group discussion in September.

If you’re interested to find out more, or ready to get started, call the rectory 253-3300 right away with a name, phone and email for immediate materials.

ADVENT

This Advent explore ways to live simply as we prepare with hope for the coming of Jesus and the renewal of the earth.

Advent marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. As we remember Mary’s “Yes” today, discern how God invites us to renew the earth and our lives.

You are again invited to begin again this season.

A Mission to End Waste -RECYCLE WRAPPERS HERE!

Millions of pounds of candy are purchased for Halloween in America.

We all love celebrating with something sweet! However, the vast majority of candy wrappers end up in landfills due to an inability by most curbside recycling programs to recycle them. This is the case in RI.

In Rhode Island, candy wrappers cannot be accurately sorted and/or sold to recyclers. It is an exception to the basic mixed recycling rules. Therefore, the only option is trash to the landfill.

Many kids really enjoy Halloween but do not realize the ecological impact of all those candy wrappers.

The Earth Ministry at St. Mary’s will be providing a green box for the collection of candy wrappers that will be available in the parish center during Religious Ed Classes on 10/27 and 11/3, 17 and 24.

During the week, collected wrappers can be dropped off at the Rectory house.

We’re hoping the visual of this box will start the conversation, and help kids understand.

There’s always more recycling that can be done.

We’re looking to recycle more and keep trash out of our growing landfill. To do this we’ll be using the services of Terracycle. They can recycle the hard-to-recycle. These wrappers will go to their recycling facility.

RECYCLE WRAPPERS HERE!”
